Barcelona April 30 through May 7th, do I need any reservations before I go?

Hello folks, heading to Barcelons for the first week in May. I think it is perhaps labour day on Monday the 2nd of May...will everything be closed? We intend on seeing the Sagreda Familia and as much Gaudi as possible. We would also like to visit the Picasso Museum, the Miro museum, The Dali Museum in Figueres, Monserrat, and the Maritime Museum as well. Combined with that a few walks and good food and some pretty gardens. Is there anything I should reserve in advance, via the internet or otherwise? Have I too much stuffed in there ( I usually do ) and perhaps I need to step back and just remember to sit a while and enjoy ourselves rather than try too hard to see too much in too short a time frame.

Thanks

Dave

Robert, could you please expand on your comment. We are going 5/13-18 and have not made reservations other than apartment.

Is it really possible to make reservations for the sights mentioned by Dave? It is a good idea to go early in the morning when the museums open, the queue to the Picasso Museum was very long last time I visited. Both times I have visited the Dali museum in Figueres I just bought a ticket at the train station minutes before departure. It is a regional train and I doubt that reservations are possible. As long as you have accomodation booked you will be fine I guess. I have arrived in Barcelona in May without reserved accomodation and that is definitely not a good idea. Ended up in not so good hotels, paid a lot and had to change hotel 3 times. If there are specific restaurants you want to try, booking a table in advance is a good idea.

Have fun!

Usually book my hotels at great value

betterbidding.com great values on 5*

from $70 bidding priceline.

Otel.com Booking.com if you do not want to bid.

eurocheapo.com good city guides no need need to book tours

etc. but always book hotels for great prices.

You will be fine without reservations to the sites and in fact I don't think most places take them. You can make reservations for Sagrada Familia but it is not necessary. Most people will suggest getting there early so you have a shorter line. We arrived at 1 or 2 in the afternoon to a long but fast moving line. If you plan to take a tour of the Palau de la Musica Catalana, you might might want to reserve in advance or at least head there on your first day to find out when there are openings. (We did the latter, arriving morning of our first day in town and getting a tour the next morning).

I forgot to add, if you are interested in particular restaurants, you should be making those reservations now.

The Maritime Museum: Does not require reservations. I have been there twice (June/Sept.) and it was not overrun, not even on a weekend.

Montserrat: I would NOT go on weekends. Otherwise there is not much you can reserve. You get combination tickets for the train to Montserrat, and either cogwheel train or cable car to the mountain top at Pl. Espanya station in Barcelona.

Dali Museum Figueres: If you want to book tickets ahead:

Labour Day is on May 1st. My memory is not fully functioning, but I am pretty sure that Catalunya observes holidays on their proper dates. And does not make the next working day a holiday if the holiday itself is on a sunday. But hopefully someone more familiar with the local customs can verify that.
