Barcelona: Apartment
 

We would like to spend a month or two in Barcelona next spring (April/May)and are looking for an apartment to rent in the city, so we don't spend a fortune on hotels. Can someone recommend a place, or reasonably priced listings for rentals in Barcelona?

For stays of a month or more, visit loquo.com and check out the offers. I found my apartment there (I live here, so it was cheaper than what you will pay), and noticed a lot of offers for nice locations that for 2 people cost way less than hotels.

LaClaire -- Once again, you are the bomb. Great link. We will be in the south of France (leaving tomorrow!) for two weeks and just found out a friend is going to be in Barcelona during the two days we still need to fill (in terms of accommodation). Naturally, we will head to Spain! As we are a family of four, this link is perfect. One question: we will have a rental car. Any suggestions for areas of the city to focus on? Or any thoughts on parking in the city or, is it crazy?, leaving the car outside the city? Obviously we want to limit our driving in the city to the bare minimum. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Hey Molloy! Glad you are coming to BCN! If you have a rental car and don't want to just turn it back in for those days (understandable as it is a hassle and a hustle), I recommend finding an underground parking in the city and leaving it there for the entire time you are in BCN. I don't find driving in the city to be that difficult, but then again, I have done it before and also driven in way more hardcore places. So, try to leave it in upper BCN. I know that at the intersection of Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia you will find parking and it works with tickets. You get your ticket, leave the car, take your stuff (leave nothing in the car!!!!!), then go on your merry way. When you get back to get the car, you insert the ticket and pay the full amount (most take credit cards) and then you use the stamped ticket to leave. DO NOT LOSE THE TICKET!

Don't leave the car outside of the city because that is inconvenient for everyone. I think the Diagonal/PdeG parking is great, and if you want to be really central, hit the parking on the East side of the Ramblas.

And, any problems or whatever, you have my e-mail and I check it regularly.

Claire -- thanks so much for your reply and your constant willingness to offer advice. As it turned out, as much as we wanted to get to Barcelona, we ended up staying in the house we had rented near Pezenas. My six year old daughter was particularly disappointed as she wanted to see where the Cheetah Girls filmed their latest movie (!!!!! I can't BELIEVE I am up to date on the latest Disney Channel movies, but so the world turns) ultimately we decided that it was just too much to try to do. Thanks again, and I'm sure we'll hit you up for some advice when we do take a trip to Spain. When we do, I'd love to buy you a glass of cava!

Molloy- I am so glad your trip went well and though you didn't make it to BCN, it will be here when you come back, and maybe by then your daughter can be an extra in the Cheetah Girls 2 film. We had torrential downpours for 3 days which knocked out traffic signals, internet, and a lot of phone service, and also hurt the wine crops, but as far as water stores go, we are in high cotton until well into the new year.
