Barcelona and/or Girona worth a visit?

Are Barcelona and Girona worth a few days visit? I hear yes and no.

I liked Barcelona better than I thought I would, but it is not one of my favorite cities. The architecture is interesting, and there are a couple of good museums, but nothing like Rome, Paris, London, etc. I enjoyed Madrid more.

As for Girona, I really just passed through en route to Barcelona, but I'm honestly not sure that there is much to see. It looked pretty rural to me.

...........Girona has a beautiful
Medieval town centre full of lovely
stone buildings and steeply winding
narrow streets through the Jewish
quarter up to the cathedral. Lots
of cafes and stores worth exploring.
Yes, IMHO, Girona is well worth
visiting - but don't go on a Sunday
when everything is closed up tight.

The rest of the town is pretty, hmm,
typical......not too exciting.

I have not visited Girona, but spent 4 days in Barcelona in 2001 and loved it. My (then 17 year old) daughter agreed that it was much more interesting than Madrid. We had planned to visit the nearby monastery, but decided that there was so much more to do in Barcelona that we skipped it. Definitely do the hop on/hop off bus and tours related to the architecture.

The monastery at Montserrat is well worth the day trip from Barcelona.
