Barcelona and Las Ramblas
 

I've noticed Las Ramblas mentioned a lot but don't know what it is - a street, a section or just what? Please enlighten me! Many thanks in advance!

the ramblas is a pedestrianised street approx 1 mile in length.(traffic is allowed down each side).it is about25 yds in width.during the day it is lined with street performers,market stalls and plenty of bars. at night its a place to wander and people watch. <BR>are you visiting barcelona? if so contact and i'll give you some ideas. <BR>regards <BR>simon <BR>

I visited Barcelona two years ago. The Ramblas area is very nice and entertainging during the day. Be careful late at night. I was there with a group of friends late one night and saw a couple of people being mugged and assaulted. Try to avoid the area, especially the area closer the the Christopher Columber monument. <BR>

I will be going to Barcelona in early October. Can anyone recommend any great sites to photograph?

Yes, the Ramblas is dangerous after dark...but even at dusk too. Be very careful if anyone bumps you or spills something on you or tries in any way to stop you. Also the metro after dark is dangerous (the underground stations that is). But then they also tried to mug me twice in broad daylight too. I was never alone when these incidents happened so being with others is no safety. And I'm 6 foot 2 so it's not that I'm a pushover. <BR>

Las Ramblas is just as the previous people have described it. The only exception is that I did not see nor ran into any trouble with muggers. I would not recommend being out there at night though especially if you are alone. Remember it is one of the biggest cities in Spain. Common sense says that generally big cities at night spell trouble. Make sure you get the chance to see and photograph the Sagrada Familia church. I went my honeymoon for one month in the mediterranean, saw many countries and among my absolute favorite sites was the Sagrada Familia. You won't be dissapointed! Enjoy!
