Although having a car would be nice so we can do some driving out by the coast, and set our own schedule.

So what would be better for the overnight--Girona or Figueras?

Girona, definitely. The old town is charming, there is a lot to see. Figueres does not have much to offer apart from the Dali museum. Girona to Figueres is less than one hour by car.

Smeagol: PLEASE will you consider writing a trip report about your experiences?
I'm so eager to hear about Begur and vicinity, for a possible future trip.

WW: I stayed at a truly wonderful apartment in Barcelona last year; the company is DestinationBCN and they are a joy to work with. I will be happy to offer more details (the 2 bed/2 bath apartment was GHOST and the location is Eixample, just west of Placa Catalunya) if you are considering using them for a rental in Barcelona.

Thanks so much for the tip. We wouldn't need 2 bedrooms, but will look at their other offerings when it's time.

Now I'm angsting about the weather. I've been in southern Spain in November/December, probably passed through Barcelona late November. It's not going to be balmy probably, but looking at the various weather sites, it looks like it might be averaging 15C or 60F. Not a bad tradeoff for fewer tourists I guess.
