Barcelona & daytrips - end of April

Hi all,

Planning to be in Barcelona from April 21-26 and thinking of doing a couple day trips (ie. Sitges, Vilanova i la Gertru or Tarragona). Can anyone tell me if, from previous experience, that time is hot enough for the beach? (I'll be coming from Ireland where I'm anticipating rain for the week I'm there...).

Much thanks for any info!

Obviously no one can go into the future and come back to let me know, so I meant, if anyone's travelled around that time before and perhaps give me info on your weather experience.

Thank you.

April might be a bit early for the beach in Northern Spain, but you never know. It could be warm, or not....

If you're Irish, it may be warm enough for the beach, but in all likelihood you won't get beyond the mid-20s Celsius.

2+ day trips in a five-day trip to Barcelona seems a bit much considering there's a good bit to do there.

I always consult weatherbase.com for recorded averages. I would expect "spring-like" more than HOT.

Thanks for the responses!

1) Im a Canadian (slowly getting over the Polar Vortex at the moment), so any sun is welcomed! ha ha
2) I've been to Barcelona before and done most of the "major" sights, so a day or two spent daytripping is fine with me

Guess I can just pack a bathing suit and hope for the best (or find a cheap flight somewhere warmer for a few days) :)

thanks again.

Couple of other ideas for a day trip: The Monastery at Montserrat and the Cava town of San Sadurni d'Anoia, both easily accessible from Barcelona.

Oh, if you're Canadian then mid-teens in Celsius is beach weather, right?

In early May last year it was quite chilly, and the water certainly wasn't comfortable for swimming. It was a cooler than usual spring, but even with typical temps I doubt it will be much different.
We took a car down the coast to Sitges, had lunch in Tarragona and drove back through the Penedes. A sort of long day but not grueling. Here's a tourism site: http://www.tarragonaturisme.cat/en/

I was in Barcelona last year at the end of April....it rained , it was about. 12-15C.
Might be different this year.
Sitges is mostly about beaches.. Not much to see
Girona is an interesting day trip
Valencia and further south will be warmer.

Great; thanks for all the feedback! Much appreciated.
Guess I'll have to re-think beach daytrips for other places (such as Montserrat, as noted above).

safe & happy travels!
