Barcelona and.......

We are planning a trip to see our daughter who is studying in Barcelona. This is our first time in Spain and I really need help narrowing down what we can realistically see and do in 10-14 days. We are going in the beginning of April and will probably stay in Barcelona 4 or 5 days then.....
(We do not have to fly into and out off the same place.)

Thanks danon, that looks great. I will look at train schedules now. Does anyone know how long it takes to get from Seville to Madrid? AVE?

third week in April is Semana Santa in Seville
(- April 17th to April 24th) ... millions visit to see and participate in the processions.
keep it in mind when planning re: hotels and transportation.

Good to know I can flip the trip. Fly into Madrid out of Barcelona. Thanks

panucci,
we visited our daughter who was studying in Barcelona this past October, and loved our visit. We spent 5 days in Barcelona, then rented a car & drove north through Costa Brava, overnighted in Cadaques, & then spent 2 nights in Girona. We spent a day driving through part of the Pyrenees, & made stops in Besalu, Ripoll, Rupit & Vic. We were gone for 10 days, so we found this route to be the most sensible & best use of our time because we didn't waste time flying/training to places further away.

You can click on my name to find my trip report if that would help you decide. We LOVED every part of our trip.

Kwoo,
Great trip report! My only hesitation is the white knuckling drive....I am not always the best passenger (or driver). Still your itinerary could be very good for us. Thanks

Hi panucci,
Honestly, the drive over the mountain to Cadaques was not that bad. I admit that I personally wouldn't want to be the driver but my husband drove & he was fine with it. You just have to drive slow & be sensible. I think Cadaques is worth the visit; it was one of the highlights of our trip. The locals drive that route all the time.
Let us know what you ultimately decide to do. You will love Barcelona! I'm envious!

I agree with Kwoo, why waste your time traveling when there is so much to see around the Costa Brava or even just over the border in France ie Couillure. People tend to stick to and recommend the old faithfuls (beautiful though they are).
