Barcelona and...
Hi,
I am traveling in April with my mom and we plan to go to Barcelona and one other city, we will most likely have a total of 7 nights. I know it will be cool in San Sebastian but we were hoping to get a beach area and enjoy the food scene there, however does anyone have any possibly warmer recommendations for 2-3 days? Thanks in advance! |
April in SS is not beach time
Valencia ( 3 hours by train ) is a beautiful city with great beaches. |
With 7 nights, you might want to limit yourself to Barcelona and the immediate area. I strongly recommend that you consult the Michelin Green Guide and Rough Guide for the area. And you might find some ideas in my trip report:
http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...-catalunya.cfm You do NOT need to go to San Sebastian for good food -- you can get great food in Barcelona and the Costa Brava! |
Another vote for Valencia - just look at these ten targets:

Barcelona and the Costa Brava.
|
Valencia is your best bet.
|
Barcelona, Tibidabo, Montserrat, Costa Brava. In April the water is cold!!! Freezing! But you can take sun...

If "April" incorporates Easter week (Semana Santa) then you can either make a fantastical wonderland of your trip, or find yourself in deep doo-doo accommodation-wise. Seville at Semana Santa is a world-changing, unforgettable experience. Other places, it can be equally exalting, or just simply add a nice accent. Marbella is pleasant and tame around that time. It depends on your dates and what you might want to experience.

Another vote for Valencia, and come back to the out of this world San Sebastián food scene later: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...y-for-foodies/
Also a fabulous, but very different, food scene in Barcelona/Catalunya and Valencia. https://www.lonelyplanet.com/spain/b...articles/68463 The famous rice dishes in Valencia (also fabulous rice/arroz dishes in Barcelona): http://www.spain.info/en/que-quieres..._valencia.html |
We spent a week between Barcelona and San Sebastián a couple of years ago and it was lovely. We spent time sitting on the beautiful beach, but didn't swim.
We flew between the two cities. You can see our Barcelona pics here https://www.flickr.com/photos/pug_gi...57644215874841 And San Sebastián pics here https://www.flickr.com/photos/pug_gi...57644330328153 Happy planning! |
jamikins, thanks for those excellent photos of San Sebastián!, my favourite city on the planet and arguably the most beautiful city in Spain. http://www.thespainscoop.com/san-sebastian-spain/

My pleasure Kimhe, glad you enjoyed them. We loved our time there...need to get back!
