Barcelona

My wife and I will be in Barcelona for a week. Any advice on making the best of it. In addition to Barcelona, we would like to go to Andorra for a day and Monaco.
Thanks

What do you like doing, when are you going, are you planning to spend the whole week in Barcelona???( or are the planned Monaco and Sndirra trips part of that week?)
A bit of info about yourself makes it easier for us to recommend.

Sndirra! That should be Andorra!

You'll have to fly to Monaco if it's a day trip as the train takes between 9 and 12 hours.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific. We are going the last week of August. I reach Monday morning. At present my plan is to stay in Barcelona for 3 nights, do a day trip to Andorra and then take a flight to Nice and go to Monaco and spend two nights there, return on Sunday to fly back.
We would love your thoughts on this and suggestions for things to do and a hotel in Monaco.

Why do you want to go to Andorra???????

Pvoyageuse Jul 24th, 2013 10:09 AM

Barcelona to Andorra is a 3.50 hour drive. Add the time needed to find a parking place (Andorra is a zoo in summer) and it will be a very tiring day trip.

Amitcmd Jul 24th, 2013 11:51 AM

Heard Andorra is a shoppers haven
Also heard that the drive is scenic

Pvoyageuse Jul 24th, 2013 12:20 PM

Shopper's heaven? it depends on your definition of heaven :-)
It also depends on what you want to buy. Andorra is not in the EU and you'll have to go through customs on your way back. Customs officers at the border as usually very efficient.
Yes, the drive is scenic as you drive up towards Cerdanya and Andorra but it is a minimum of 7 hours driving back and forth.

My take is that Andorra is "shopper's hell." But then I'm not a big shopper.

Personally I think there are a lot more interesting places near Barcelona that involve interesting scenic drives without the mob scene often found in Andorra but whatever floats your boat.

Forgot to mention the smog!

I loved Barcelona and here was enough shopping for even me to be satisfied with! I just loved the food and cheap cocktails! Hanging out at the beach etc. If you are planning on going to the churches(which you really should do) go there on opening! Those crowds are huge! We enjoyed the hop on hop off bus tour and we also did the cable car thing up this hill...those views were great but the HOHO bus tour goes there too. You will love Barcelona! I think a week there you will find more then enough to do especially if there is shopping as well! ENJOY!

<< We would love your thoughts on this >>

This is an unusual itinerary. You'll only have 2 days in Barcelona which is not much time. You'll have to plan your limited sightseeing very carefully.

What do you want to buy in Andorra that you can't get in Barcelona?

I would not leave Barcelona for Andorra or Monaco.

Why are you flying back to Barcelona to go home. Why not fly home from Nice?

Amitcmd Jul 25th, 2013 01:40 PM

Based on all the responses I have decided not to go to Andorra. So we will essentially have Monday till Thursday in Barcelona. I have my return flight booked from Barcelona and that cannot be changed. Monaco came highly recommended by a friend who was there recently. My return flight to Nice is not at all expensive.
I could cut Monaco to one night if that is your suggestion.
