Barcelona - 5 Best things?
Still looking for info on Barcelona, would like 5 "must-sees" and also best nearby/daytrips. We will arrive on Good Friday, any suggestions for what will be open or closed? Also, what about Easter Monday, are most things closed then? Is there a dress code for churches? Thanks.

i agree with abram but would also add the picasso museum and also for a day trip (an hour if i recall correctly by train) i highly recommend the Dali museum in figueras -- unbelievable!

(nearly) Everything is shut for about 3-5 days over easter, including supermarkets etc.
stick to nice outdoorsy stuff such as going for a walk up MÖntjuic, by the national palace and plaza españa, parc güell (but early morning to miss the hoards of tourists) and the above suggestions. Views from the marina are lovely. Eat lots. Enjoy! |
Parc Guell
La Sagrada Familia Torres winery Cable car Black foot dried ham and sherry Dress code you betcha. Elbows, lower calves covered. Proper shoes, Head scarf for women. No belly button showing and generally darker colours. No cameras, walkmen, Ipods, phones. |
The first time I went I arrived on the afternoon of Good Friday & couldn't get anything to eat until the evening; so depending on what time you arrive, you may want to pick up sandwiches at the airport. Nothing else adversely affected me, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon a church procession.
Most museums are closed every Monday, so you may want to do the open top bus tours then - there are 2, the blue route & the red route, they are quite far-ranging & worth doing. One of them takes you to the beach (by the Olympic Village). |
