Hi, we are trying to organise a trip to walk the Via del Sale in Italy, which goes from south of Milan across the Ligurian apennines and finishes on the coast in Camogli. However we are struggling to find any guide books/maps/directions at all. A company called onfoot holidays runs a trip there but we are doing this completely independently and need the route details. If anyone can help???

Rosie Whitehouse, in her Liguria guide (Bradt Guides), mentions it, probably when relating to Torriglia, in the hills above Genoa. The book might have suggestions for accommodation in the area, I find it pretty detailed regarding out of the way places to visit above Genoa and the coast. I can check if the Via del Sale is mentioned other than in one passing comment I seem to remember from the book.

Torriglia (direct bus line to and from Genoa) is part of the regional Parco Antola, so you might find ideas for itineraries on their website:

The search for information is more difficult because there are more than one "Via del Sale" in Italy.

Wasn't there a trip report about some of this a year or two ago? The person posted pics of the hike, where they stayed each night, etc. I can't remember the name of the thread or poster. I do seem to recall it was this general area and I'm not talking the trip report about the couple that walked from Pisa to Venice. Anyone else remember the report with all the pictures?

Just google Via del Sale. There are countless resources. Yes, they are mostly in Italian, but you're going to Italy, no? So learn some Italian. It's a very easy language.

Google translate is good to read information in foreign countries. I am sorry I don't know about via del Sale. I know it from history, but only now am I looking at maps and finding where it is. There are many towns in this part of Italy so you will find places to eat and sleep. In summer it can be very hot.

There isn't a only "via del sale" in Italy. You are looking for via del sale lombarda, from Varzi to Sori/Camogli... It's about 70 Km long. You can go to voghera by train from Milan or Pavia and take the bus for Varzi. here the timetable

From Varzi you can go to Castellaro and follow this itinerary:
https://it.wikiloc.com/wikiloc/view.do?id=3566865 You will find small villages with hotels and tipical restaurant (all indicated on this map; It's better take a reservation to this hotels becouse they seem to be very small). You will pass by Carrega Ligure who is considered the most isolated municipality in Italy.
You can also go from Varzi to Caldirola (about 3 hours and 30 min, go to capanne di cosola from there Caldirola and follow the first itinerary. I think both itinerary request a minimum of 3-4 days.
If you do this trip, please write a beautiful trip report, i would like follow this road and i'm very curious.
