Walker...I do not know sorry:(
Kate- go to www.orvis.com and do a search for Barbour. They sell Barbour products. I think the average cost is in the $300-$400 USD depending on the model.

I purchased a Barbour Beaufort jacket at either House of Hardy or Farlows (I recall they're both located on Pall Mall) when I was there about 10 years ago. The price at the time in the States was around $400, as it is now. I paid the equivalent of $65 - that was before the VAT, which I was able to get refunded. On the same trip I also purchased a Barbour Spey jacket at a flyfishing shop in Edinburgh, whose name I can't recall, at a similar saving. I don't know if that type of saving is still possible, but it wouldn't supprise me to find a similar difference now.

My local Orvis shop sponsors an annual Barbour promotion where you can get your jacket professionally reproofed at no cost. I've done that several times over the years.

They're nice jackets - not $400 nice, but nice - and prior to Gore-Tex were the only thing available that was waterproof and breathable. Now I think the higher quality synthetics are much better choices, though admittedly not nearly as trendy. I frankly don't understand why anyone would ever want to wear one on a city street, especially if it isn't raining. I've never worn my Beaufort when I wasn't hunting and of course a Spey jacket would look pretty silly if you weren't also wearing a pair of chest waders.

I had one several years ago but got rid of it. You had to refinish it every now and then with an expensive product that's sold for it.

A Google search on Barbour reveals www.barbour.com

Current UK prices appear to range from £140 to £220 for the traditional waxed cotton.

I have a Barbour jacket circa 1985, which I now keep in the back of my Volvo wagon for my dog to sleep on. The previous poster was right when they said that the waxy finish on the Barbour jacket diminishes over time, causing the jacket to look like bloody hell. I bought mine in a shop in Windsor, UK, and it was cheaper than the same coat at Orvis in Manhattan.

I had a friend bring me back a Barbour quilted jacket from London last summer. In New York I have seen them for around $225. Looking on-line it seemed like they were a lot less expensive in England so I asked her to get one for me if she saw a shop.

She found the one I wanted at Harrods--unfortunately for you she wouldn't tell me exactly how much it cost. She did say it wasn't anywhere near $200 and gave it to me as a gift. The more serious outdoorsy jackets are way more money than that, but I imagine there would be similar savings involved.

Here is a website I found while searching for myself: www.bestinthecountry.co.uk The Eskdale jacket (one I have) is 59.57 pounds--even with shipping it is less than buying it in the US.

Hope that helps.
Jenny

Thanks, Jenny for the site. My jacket was the 3/4 wax one and it seems about the same price I paid here in Boston.
