bank to exchange old francs in paris
do any of you locals know the address of the bank that will exchange old francs still in paris?
i assume it is the banque de france.. but which office? thanks |
I'm not sure if you still can, but at least I can top this for you. I changed mine in Avignon because I happened to be in Provence but they did not take coins so I covered a frame with them for my dog's picture.

supposedly there should still be one bank in every country that takes the currency.
at least, that is what i thought. will soon find out. leaving tomorrow. found a bunch of francs in old travel pouch. iŽll ask around when i get there. |
I'm not a local, but you can't exchange coins any more, the deadline was last year. You can exchange franc notes for euro until 2012 at the Banque de France. I don't know if you can do it at any branch (you used to be able to), but I know you can do it at their central office (M-F, about 9 am to 3 pm) at this office:
31 rue Croix des Petits Champs 75001 |
thank you so much.

bumping for future reference

croix de petits champs is not far from s.eastern part of louvre. easy to find.

I exchanged my old Francs into Euro in Nice... it took a whole 5 minutes! While they didn't take all of my old bills (there were some old ones) it was nice to have a little extra Euro.
|
Not an exchange bank but I was in Nice last Sunday. In the Old town, I saw a souvenir shop with a big sign that said "On reprend francs". When I bought 2 bars soap (one mint flavored and another bitter almond), I asked them to be sure. They answered they take francs as long as it's bills.

Only the Banque de France will exchange francs and only the last series of bills.
These are the banknotes that you can still exchange: Delacroix 100F until 31 January 2009. ---- 500F Pierre et Marie Curie 200F Gustave Eiffel 100F Cézanne 50F Saint Exupery 20F Debussy All these until 17 February 2012. After that date, no francs can be exchanged in France. |
