Bank of England Bank Notes At EDI ATM's?

It seems to me I read somewhere that there is/are ATMs at EDI airport which issue BofE notes as opposed to Scottish ones. Does anyone know if this is true and thank you in advance.

Was true when I used EDI 6 months ago. Bit pointless issuing anything else due to the problems you can have changing Scottish notes abroad.

OK, but which bank's ATM did you use? Or do all of them issue BofE notes?

Bank of England.

The clue is in the name.

There's areas of Glasgow that I really wouldn't risk refusing to take RBS or Clydesdale notes.

"Bit pointless issuing anything else due to the problems you can have changing Scottish notes abroad."

I've do idea what this statement is intended to mean when it is translated into Scottish but it appears to be mildly insulting to our currency.

BC, I simply wanted to know which bank at EDI has an ATM which dispenses BofE notes and since the Bank of England does not have ATM's there...

The Bank of England doesn't have ATMs anywhere.

Unless you are immediately leaving Scotland the chances are you will get Scottish notes in your change anyway. I have never had a problem with them in England.
If you are immediatel leaving Scotland then wait until you get where you are going and use an ATM there for Bof notes.

Scottish notes are sometimes difficult to change abroad or attract lower exchange rate than BOE notes. It's just the way it is. So the question is a legitimate one. Best to get your notes a few days in advance, and exchange any Scottish notes into BOE ones at any bank branch.

Alec, thank you. I think what I will do is get some cash before I arrive as much as I hate using anything besides an ATM.

We will only be in Edinburgh for two nights this time around (flying from Italy) so I can use my credit card for other things while in the city. We fly from EDI to Amsterdam before returning a few nights later to London.

Why not use ATMs in airport and if Scottish bank notes just take them to the regular exchange booths there and ask for English banknotes - to get pounds before going could be be costly.

I had no problem in May using the cash I had gotten in Scotland in Mildenhall/Bury St Edmunds. A couple of people looked at it at first but took it. One guy said as long as it wasn't Ulster money.

In January in Edinburgh, I received very few Scottish banknotes in change and made sure to spend them first whenever I went to a shop. Only about 10% of the banknotes I received were Scottish anyway, so it wasn't really a problem.

I know you don't accept any info form me but, no matter. Thinking there are Bank of England ATMs, or even banks, is your first problem. There aren't any (even in England). It would be like looking for Federal Reserve ATMs or US Treasury ATMs.

Any at in Scotland will give you Scottish bank notes, plus sometimes a few English notes mixed in.

Having Scottish notes is not a hardship. Even if there were machines at EDI issuing English notes, they would be in departures, since one would never need them on arrival.

there is one in departures area airside that says it gives English notes, there are also others that will issue euros if you want.
Barclay's machines only ever issue English notes and there are several throughout the city.

Kerouac

In tourists areas you will see far more Bank of England notes in circulation. Outside those areas you will see less and less. Quite simply the local banking systems do keep BofE notes in general circulation, RBS and Clydesdale notes are maintained and circulated.

I can't remember ever being issued with BofE notes from an ATM in Scotland but this is a function of the branches I am using and the few times I actually need cash.

Be very, very aware that there is a high occurrence of fake older RBS £20 notes and Ulster Bank £20, £10. I could post the truth as to why but it's not PC in today's anti-sectarian environment.
