BANK IN 12th arr
 

I have about 30euros from a previous trip but want to change dollars to eruros at a bank so I can get the currency I want. My apartment is by the Metro Porte de Vincennes. Anyone know of a bank in that area? OR if failing that a good place to change money either at CDG or somewhere else. Thanks

AFAIK most bank branches no longer exchange $ for €. You may have to go to an actual Foreign Exchange office (like Travelex) so at CDG is probably your best bet.

Or if it's not too late, get a debit card so you can access your checking account from an ATM at CDG or a bank near your lodging. There should be lots of threads here and other places for learning about avoiding the conversion fees, etc. Not what you asked, I know... See article below -- I use an online Capitol One acct.

Oh -- I took it to mean you just wanted to change a few odd $/€. If you mean changing substantial-ish money for the trip you don't want to 'exchange' money anywhere. Like TrophyWife says, by far the best option is to use an ATM / debit card liked to your checking account.


. . . And when using a cash machine, read the screen instructions and do NOT click the 'allow calculating in US$' or what ever wording is used. You want the calculation done in €. Otherwise you will pay extra exchange fees.

Upon implimentation of the euro, 90% of the exchange bureaux in France closed. You can still find some around the big train stations, particularly Gare du Nord.

Thanks everyone. A US citizen but live outside the US and I like, prefer, feel comfortable:
-exchanging funds with my ATM card inside the confines of an ATM machine kiosk which are on the premises of a bank. This is in case of an issue I can go right inside to the bank and ATMs usually give big bills. I want the smaller currency.
-ATMs on the premises of a bank are sometimes/usually enclosed so less of an opportunity for mischief/annonyances/distractions to occur
-this is my birthday trip, and have been traveling for about 60 years (61 in a few weeks), 73 countries, Paris numerous times, but times they are a changin' and just like to reach out in case there is something I might have missed.

ATMs in France do not give big bills. 50 is the highest given and usually the machine asks you if you want smaller. There are plenty of machines inside banks and also post offices.
