Hi E,

Have you tried train schedules at www.voyages-sncf.com?

The Pentecost holiday was cancelled by the government a few years ago for the vast majority of people.

"bank holiday" is a British term. Museums were never closed for that holiday, at least none of the major ones I've ever heard of. Stores are often closed on Sunday, anyway. Why would a restaurant close for those, these aren't some big major event -- some restaurants in Paris do close for Sunday regularly though, and some maybe on Monday. But it has nothing to do with those holidays.

Hi Ira -

thanks for the web address - it's helped greatly

Hi Christina/kerouac - i used a british word for this weekend, as i don't know what the french call these weekend national holidays, but they still do exit and according to the Fodors Paris 2007 book, May 27 abd 28 are a holiday throughout the country because it is Pentecost ... fodor advices the reader that all museums and stores are closed both days - hence my original questions

Fodor's is wrong about this.

Whit Monday may be a holiday in France, http://tinyurl.com/2orrg4 amongst others lists it as such. However it was abolished in 2005, but there is much protest about this and it may be reinstated. It is now "a day of solidairty with old people".
They'd better not try that in Holland as it is our last public holiday before Christmas!!!!!
