Ballet Bolshoi

I have a trip planned for Moscow and St P by the end of October with my husband. I have been checking the performance schedule for the Bolshoi Ballet, but it was this week that it was available. For my dismay the price starts at almost $400 each one. Way out of our budget!
What I find strange is that I've seen the prices during summer a lot lower. Am I missing something?
Does anyone know of any way to get significan discount tickets?

I don't know where you are getting those prices -- since the on the official site they are not yet available . . . None of the fall schedule after Sept 25 is bookable yet

If you go to the box office directly I think you will find that there are much lower prices available than through agents aimed at american travelers.

janisj, I have been following this site: http://www.bolshoirussia.com/playbill/search/10-2016/
It just included the schedule for October. I am happy to know that is not the official one.
nytraveler, thank you for the info, I would prefer to get my tickets in advance, but I'll keep that option in mind.

Google Bolshoi direct ...you can purchase and print tickets!
I saw a balet last July ...about 70 dollars for a very good seat
Already purchased the ticket for opera this July...about 80 dollars
Do no buy tickets from agencies!
The web page is excellent and in English.

You brought me excellent news danon. Thank you!

The Bolshoi website has been in operation and you have been able to purchase tickets online for at least 10 years.

Things have moved on and there are now e-tickets you can print or you can print your certificate and collect tickets from the box office which I what I did (pre-eticket days).

I would not buy tickets at the box office as very often performances are sold out. Advance booking is much better. I have also paid in the order of $70-$100 for tickets but top end prices can be $200.

Thanks Odin! I will be checking the web site.

I suspect you are not converting rubles correctly. Because in July, the schedule shows the max price for any performance is 12000 rubles. That is $187. And I agree, if you are claiming you are seeing prices in October at $400, I don't know where you are looking as they aren't on the official website, but that would be about 25000 rubles.

Now this website does actually list schedules for October somehow and I see they do have a couple close to $400. But certainly not all. And of course, any website quoting in USD, you know is not the official website.
