Balkans in winter?

My holidays only start at end of January till mid February. It stinks really, but I always try to make do with what I can.

I plan to visit the Balkans state this time. But during Jan-Feb, would the whole region be heavily covered in Snow? If I'd like to enjoy meself a skiing or skating trip, any recommendation?

I'd imagine the coastal regions to be slightly warmer?

can ou be more specific - there is a difference between Bulgaria and Croatia!

Exactly! Haha!

I have this rough idea about visiting the Balkans state, and either I'm visiting the ex-yugoslavian country (ie Serbia- Bosnia and Herzegovina- Croatia- Montenegro) or Romania- Bulgaria- Macedonia then Greece.

Which areas would be coldest (ie inches and inches of snow) around February?

in former Yug. - Bosnia would be coldest, but I am not sure about how much snow you would find . If you are interested in skiing go a bit west - to Slovenia.
Don't know about Bulg and Rom.

I can not advise about Balkans, but Carpathian, that are a continuation of the the Balkans, are very nice in the winter. Prahova Valley with Sinaia and Predeal, then Poiana Brasov, or Moeciu (near Bran Castle) are winter resorts and there you can sky.
You can enjoy beautiful views, visits of peles and bran castles and good restaurants.
