Bahn ticket question

I was on the official german rail website. I noticed their was a bahn ticket option which gives you a 50 percent discount. Can someone please explain this.

A 50 percent discount is half off. You divide the ticket price by two.

Probably it's the BahnCard. You buy this card once a year for 206 Euros (the spouse for the 103 Euros) and then you pay for each train ticket just the half price. An alternative for non-Europeans are rail passes. See

There is also the "Sparpreis 50" discount option. If you book a return journey long enough in advance and commit to the one train, and there is a Saturday between the two journeys then you can get 50% discount. The places for this are limited though.

If you're traveling very much in Germany it's hard to beat the German Railpass, sold only outside of Germany - it starts at $150 per person for four days of travel in a one-month period and you can add on extra days for about $20 a day. The pass can be used on any train - even the ICEs that cost more than other trains without surcharge. As reservations are not required on most German trains you can just hop on the trains. Compare prices at www.bahn.de and see which is best - the Bahn Card costs too much for casual travelers only in Germany a short while but due to expensive fares for long-distance trains the German Railpass could well be the bargain you're looking for. You can contact BETS (800-441-2387) for current prices and they'll answer any German rail questions - i've used for years and high recommend. If just training around a compact area, like Munich-Fussen-rothenburg then you may investigate the regional passes that are sold at stations for a day - though they can't be used on fast trains but regional trains they are bargain-basement priced, especially for more than one person using them. Each region in Germany has similar passes. But to go to different parts of Germany the German Pass is hard to beat.

For altamiro --

Are you the same poster I'm familiar with from another forum? If so, HAPPY to see you here! I think you'll see some familiar names here too.

I believe that you will do better with a German Rail Pass if you are taking long trips on high speed trains. I recently returned from Germany where I got $625.00 worth of travel in a two week period from my rail passthat cost me $225.00.
