Bahn Card ?
Hi. Still trying to figure out other segments of my DB itinerary . Going back to Day 1 - Frankfurt airport to Regensburg. Departs a little after 10:00. For first class; two prices are shown (for two adults). 91.80 and 240 E. of course, I click on the lower price. DB said to be used in conjunction with a Bahn Card?.....which doesn't cost all that much?
Help required! Seems like a very large savings; if I'm understanding it. Barry |
I see an 89 Euro Sparpreis for your itinerary (I picked a random Monday since you didn't provide a date) which doesn't require a Bahncard.

Tuesday morning July 11th

Still not getting it. Why would they (DB) quote the two (2) wholly different prices? What's the catch?
|
I see a 45.90€ Sparpreis and 120€ for the 10:02 train on July 11, so for two it would be 91.80€ for Sparpreis (no bahncard required but you are obligated to take the booked train) and 240€ for full fare.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y18.../train-1_1.png There are no Bahncard options shown. What's the question exactly? |
So the Sparpreis ticket is for that exact train trip, on that day at that time? I leave the customs hall, head to the train station, request two (2) Sparpreis tickets for the 10:02; and I should be invoiced 91.80 E ?

No, you buy the Sparpreis ticket now. Like right now. They are super low fare "saver prices". If you wait, you will either have to pay full fare or sign up for a Bahncard 25 or 50 and cancel before the trial is up (if they are still doing the trial offer on them).
If you want that super cheap fare, book the tickets NOW. |
The price difference between the non-refundable and flexible tickets is huge, but quite common with the Bahn.
As far as I understand it, the Bahncard can be used for the cheap refundable tickets, apparently giving a further price reduction. But I've got another question: why travel 1st class? I've always found 2nd class comfortable enough. |
the Bahncard can be used for the cheap refundable tickets, apparently giving a further price reduction.
It is either the Bahncard 25 or 50 that you allowed to use on Sparpreis and other one you cannot (I think it's the 25 that you can use on Sparpreis but I don't care enough to check to see if I am right or not). |
It is indeed not very relevant, but the German text mentions both cards: »Kombination auch mit BahnCard 25/50 möglich.«
|
Hoping for the 10:02.......I'm scheduled to land in Frankfurt at 07:30. If all goes as scheduled; I should have more than enough time to "make" the 10:02. True? We are not checking any luggage.
|
If you land at 7:30, making the 10:02 is very possible provided there are significant delays.
|
For all that is worth I regularly travel with DB and never saw the interest of a DB card - imo you must travel several times in succession for it to be worth.
