Anyone familiar with Baggot Court Guesthouse (at 92 Lower Baggot St in Dublin)? I've seen it referenced in a couple of posts, but only in passing. How about the basic area - a good base to explore Dublin from? cailin? SiobhanP?

Its a great location and may get a wee bit noisy at night so ask for a room higher up. There are excellents pubs around you that have music and a quick walk to Grafton Street. I think the price is good but when I looked up on google there were 2 different ratings one was 2 start and one was 3 star. I don't know of anyone whi has stayed here and would be interested in your report on it when you get back.

Good pubs up here are:

Dohney and Nesbitts (Good after work crowd)
O'Donohues - music at nights
Foleys - Music on weekends
Oembroke - nice relaxed large pub.

Eats:
FXB - Steaks etc.
There is a Thai and an Indian srestaurant on the street as well.
Bang - closer towards town is pricier but excellent
Rubicon - Across from Bang european food
If you like Kebabe (Not my thing) there is a kebab stand opening the evenings across from Doheny and nesbitts that my partner raves about (usually after a few pints!).

Go for it, its a much better area than Gardiner street for the same prices.

Siobhan - I have a partner who practically can't end a night out in the town without a kebab from Ishmails - they're the best kebabs in the city apparently!

KarMar - I'd second Siobhans opinion - Baggot Street is a great location, within walking distance of Stephens Green and Grafton Street, and there are a lot of good pubs and restaurants nearby.

I don't know Baggot Court Guesthouse, but I know a pub called The Baggot Inn, Baggot Street and I enjoyed it very much.
The first time I tried the pork ribs, and I remember I returned there 2 or 3 times. It's the kind of relaxed and familiar atmosphere. I don't know if the guesthouse has the same management, but I'd expect a similar style.
Baggot Street is an excellent location. It's outside the Temple Bar area (a good point IMHO), but after a short walk, you will be in the center of all the fun.

Lobo, The baggit Inn has been closed for a long time now. Not sure when the new place will open I think there were some planning problems. At least you have nice memories!

Cailin - that bloody Kebab place is the bane of my life...no matter where we are on a night in town he has to have one of those kebabs and we walk all over town to get there. It's not easy dragging a 6 foot fella down the road to get a taxi while he is shoving a kebab in his mouth! I'm a pizza person ao they don't appeal to me.

Nevertheless Dublin's fair city is still worth to visit. My other sweet memories are the bread of Ireland, the charme of women and the circuit of breweries (not necessarily by this order)

SiobhanP, cailin, lobo - thanks for the input. We've made the reservations and look forward to exploring Dublin in late June. We'll have to try the kebabs.
