Baden Wurtenberg Train Passes
I am leaving in a few weeks for Germany. I am an older female, traveling solo. I plan to base in Heidelberg and travel by public transportation to different Christmas Markets in the general area; probably staying within 1-2 hours journey. Is there a local multi-day pass I can buy when I am there that covers train, S-bahn, etc? I would rather have a hop-on, hop-off pass than buy separate tickets.
The only options I can find are the Heidelberg card, which doesn't cover enough territory, and a Lander Day Pass, which sounds great for groups, but not for my purposes. Unless someone can assure me that there are other options available when I get to Heidelberg, I will probably just go ahead and buy the German Rail Pass before leaving home. |
Did you look at the regional passes offered at www.vrn.de? A RheinNeckar 3-Tages-Karte for 32€ will get you all over this map for 72 hours:

Barbara, I am no expert but this is a link to a fantastic website that a regular poster here has and yes there is a single Lander pass at €19.

Hi, Barbara~
Listen to Robespierre. I've been researching the same thing, and discovered the VRN 24 or 72 hour passes are great bargains and the network is huge. Don't forget, they're also valid on the Heidelberg bus system. Gute Reise! |
Just the info I was looking for!
I assume I can buy either the single Lander or the 72 hour pass at the Bahnhof in Heidelberg? |
Yes - the Land-Ticket at the DB Reisezentrum; for the 3-day, you may have to find the VRN ticket kiosk.
|
A VRN kiosk is a part of the DB Reisezentrum. After all, DB is the major participant in VRN system.
