Wiesbaden is very pretty and interesting. I spent two nights there (mainly because my mother had lived there in the 1950's). I wasn't expecting much from it, but it has wonderful parks and is great for walking. Don't know about the spas, as I did not partake of that. It does have the advantage of being very close to the best part of the Rhine.

Thanks for the additional information, Zeus. I will post more questions as planning progresses and will definitely report back.
I don't doubt that Baden-Baden is nice; I really am interested in it. It just doesn't seem to fit very well in our preliminary routes and I don't want to go out of the way for it on my first trip to Germany if I'm not sure it will be worth it to me.
We are taking three weeks to see Amsterdam, Paris and various sites in Germany, so there's a lot to think about!
I'll start a fresh post when plans firm up. I don't want to hijack TXgalinGA. But I do hope you post a trip report!

So after reading all your replys - when is the best time to visit Germany - we are also planning a Mercedes European Delivery - we don't want ice on the roads but we don't want the tourist crowds either

I had no idea this forum was here! I needed something else to keep up with, but it'll certainly come in handy when I'm planning our next trip to Germany, the land of my ancestors!
TXgalinGA, good choice on Rothenburg! We were there two years ago and kicked ourselves for not planning an overnighter. My daughter is about to go to Garmisch to visit her aunt and they're planning daytrips ... I highly recommended Rothenburg.
I realize your plans are probably in place and secure, but I'd recommend time in Garmisch-Partinkirchen, site of the 30-something winter Olympics. Zugspitz is there, the highest "alp" in the range, from the top of which you can see forever ... truly "Sound of Music" scenery! My sister lives in Garmisch and we don't tire of visiting her there.
Safe travels!
