Backpacking Coffeemaker!
Hey everyone!
I'm Demian, a young product designer from Belgium. I'm currently working on a new project : a compact coffeemaker, made for backpackers. This product will make it possible for anyone to make coffee while travelling by foot or by bike. By filling in this survey, you can help me get a much better idea of what costumers desire in such a product. http://www.survio.com/survey/d/N9D4J1H3F5D8B8O3J Thanks in advance! They already sell those things at REI in the US, at least some of them. The only one that makes sense to me is the collapsible filter holder, then you just boil water. IN fact, I have one of those.
I think you are missing your market, these type of things could be for ANY traveler, not just backpackers. REI has them in the backpacking section, also (or at least camping section). IN fact, I'd guess some other travelers might be more likely to pack a mini espresso machine than someone backpacking. |
I agree that are already several products that would fill the niche.
But I did want to compliment you on some of your other designs - especially the faucet. |
Thanks for the feedback. :)
I know that there exist a lot of products in this market already. But, as you said, the collapsible filter is the only one that makes sense. Still, I think that it's possible to make a lot of inprovements. My solution would be an all in one solution. (Drinking cup,and filter in one product) I also think that a product that doesnt require filter bags would be usefull for backpackers. In fact, you're totally right that a lot of other travellers could use a portable coffeemaker. I will take that feedback in account! :D |
Silly question, but why not just use a French press? It has an integrated filter and can be purchased in various sizes and constructions.
The biggest challenge of making coffee while traveling is getting hot water. |
Most people I now tae a small Bialetti type Moka pot with them. Someone even takes this http://www.fonq.nl/product/bialetti-...-2-kops/47691/ with them.
Others use an Aeropress or a handpresso. We take a Bialetti 4 cups with us. Once you now how to use it properly it makes reasonable coffee and doesn't weigh much. |
Hi Demian,
You might want to post your survey on Wereldwijzer Reisforums. There are a lot of backpackers there. http://www.wereldwijzer.nl/forumdisplay.php?f=1279 |
@ MyriamC: Thanks for the advise!
