Back from Rome (again) - pictures !
 

Hi all,

We just got back from Rome - what a great experience ! It was our second time in this magnificent city, so we already knew where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see and to do.

As always, I brought back a lot of pictures. This time I enjoyed photographing with a small P&S camera - I still took my whole SLR kit, but walking around with just a small camera was such a joy that I ended up using it much more (in spite all the limitations of such cameras).

I used the Canon A630 camera with a small tabletop tripod and 2-sec self timer.

Thanks for your reply. I don't use a wideangle adapter with the A630, but I do have wideangle lens for my Canon 10D (Sigma 10-20mm).

I had such a hard time with shooting inside St. Peter's basilica. Your images were stunning. Can I ask how you set the camera to get so much light?

Sandi, I set the camera on a small tabletop tripod (Manfrotto 709) and used self-timer and mirror lock option. This way I could use some long exposure times - for example this picture (http://www.pbase.com/olegis/image/75660583) was shot at f8.0 and shutter speed of 15 seconds. This small tripod is surprisingly steady even with relatively large and heavy camera like Canon 10D. There is no way I could get these amounts of light without tripod !
