Back from England.
Thanks for your suggestions even if I didn't use them. Arrived on Monday at Heathrow, validated my rail pass and took the Heathrow Express to Paddington station. Boarded a 1st Great Western to Oxford and then up to Moreton in Marsh. Spent 2 nights basically to get over jet lag then off via Oxford and Sheffield to Bridlington. Must say this was not my best choice. Spent 2 nights and off to Ely which was just terrific. Stayed at the best ever B&B located nest to the river and a 10 minute walk to the cathedral. Took the train to Cambridge then a bus to Duxford to visit the RAF museum. On Sunday I went back to Kings Cross station and via Tube to Victoria for the train to Whitstable. Spend 2 nights and did a visit to the Docklands museum in nearby Chatham. Tuesday to London, a short visit to the Imperial War museum, dinner with friends and home on Wednesday. It was another grand trip.

Nice report, rogeruktm, We are headed to London with our adult kids, and I wish we could have included more "other than London" sites....But it is their first time there, and we are concentrating on London.

rogeruktm, Can you let us know the name and contact info for the best ever B&B. Thanks. |
Hopscotch, It was the Riverside Inn, 8 Annesdale. Phone from the USA, 011 44 1353661677. The owner said the only reason why they didn't get a 5 star rating was due to the single room not meeting size requirements. I was solo and found the room very nice. The cost for a single was 40 pounds per night. I spent 2 nights.

Thank you rogeruktm. And thank you janisj for the link. I think that this is just what I am looking for. I hope that the room is available when I nail down my travel plans. |
