nz101,
My thinking is that "it's MY vacation and I'm going to look good in those photos!" LOL! |
I save photos on CDs and on Flickr. You might want to browse to see how I chose to organize them.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca/collections/ But for a slide show, even on the web, you have to decide how many is enough for one showing and edit accordingly. |
Maudie, when you are ready for a crocheted lap rug, let me know. I do that sort of thing.
|
I know exactly how you feel Pavot.
I sort all photos into folders and then select from there and make a DVD to watch on the TV with family (and friends if they arereally interested) .... usually about half to three quarters of an hour. I use the Magix Photostory software which allows soundtracks, texts, different types of fading etc etc. When we went to Africa, I had about 1000 photos (taken by 4 photographers on the family) for 2 days in Victoria Falls!! Each and every one was stunning .... my youngest daughter finally did the cull for me .... with me sitting beside her saying "just a few more please!!" |
jaja, your on! But hope you will join me in the nursing home so we can swap photo's.
|
Maudie, when I finally give in and move to the Home I'll need a U-Haul for all my photo books and the latest computer with my digitals! Hope by then to have made MANY more trips. Oh, and I'll bring all my yarn, hooks and other essentials. May need a suite.

Thanks for all the replies; I'm feeling inspired.
Gorgeous photos, Michael! I've been using Kodak's Easyshare software -- ever since I got my first digital camera back in 2003 -- but it's giving me fits. Does anyone use Photoshop? |
Michael, super photos! I can't wait to look at more of them.
Thanks for sharing! |
I am brutal about deleting photos. I take thousands, keep maybe a third at most. Then take the top hundred or so and make photo books. If you take as many photos as I do, some of them are bound to come out well. If those are the only ones you keep, people will think you are a genius.
I have had good results using MyPublisher, Blurb and Kodakgallery for photo books. I use MyPublisher when I am just including photos and I use Blurb if I am combining photos and lots of text, as it seems to be the best one for combining pictures and text. I have several (well, many) books that combine my trip reports with photos, and they are great mementos. |
I use PhotoShop Elements 3 and relatively few of the features. But its correcting elements are generally better than any other software's. On the other hand, I still project my images and my projector does not accept Photoshop's version of jpeg, so tht I have to "edit" them with HP Photosmart Studio to make them compatible. Preview on the Mac used to do that by just "saving as", but its version 4.2 no longer does. I am saying this to indicate that you may not be able to count on a single editing system.
I second Nikki's practice of editing, although I suspect that I am not as brutal as she is. |
The advent of 8G sim cards will probably mean less "during the trip" culling, but In the past, I found that if I get too involved in playing around with a shot, I can spend way too long and the result isn't all that improved. I guess that's why I take multiple shots of the same thing, so I can just dump the "unchosen" pics.
So, in a similar vein, have you ever edited a picture of yourself on vacation to make yourself look better? I don't mean doing a red eye edit, but like slimming down an arm, or clearing away a cowlick? Or what about replacing an ex's head with a celeb? |
Oops. Did not mean sim card...but you probably realize that.
|
Jaja, excellent! Something to look forward too in old age. I'm a patchwork quilter so I'll bring all my stuff and we will be happy old ladies together. Except I'm more than likely on the opposite side of the world to you. Wonder if they have Nursing homes on Bora Bora?

Good to read comments

Any NEW ideas arisen in the past 6 years? I would love your tips!

I'm not going to read everything but in general.
Video matters more. Combined with 4K that means higher storage requirements. USB3 is common and you should make sure your laptop ,external drive and cardreader are at least USB3. There are cheap blog/websites hosting. If you want to put a little effort into it you can put your best stuff up. Flickr still exists. Likely the easiest thing out there. Depending on how important these photos are to you backup needs to be considered. Backup external drives being the easiest. A local NAS drive better. Offsite second or third backup a good idea. |
