Bacharach, France (on the Rhine)

My wife and I wish to spend 2 nights in the little town of Bacharach in early June. Any advice on a clean and not extremely expensive place to stay?

Bacharach is now, and almost always has been, in Germany.

We stayed at Hotel Zur Post when we visited several years ago. It was clean and located in the center of Bacharach. I need to mention that it has no elevator, so if climbing stairs is a problem you might want to request a room on a lower floor.

Bacharach is a wonderful little town, picturesque with cobblestone streets.

I have stayed many times at Lettie's Pensione. It is very clean, comfortable and what you would like from a small Rhine Pensione. Lettie has such a warm personality. The price can't be beat.

Bacharach is the site of a wonderful youth hostel. Not sure just how adventurous the two of you are - but the youth hostel is a reconstructed and retrofitted castle at the top of the hill overlookikng the Rhine valley. If you arrive by car, there is an easy road access. If by train, you could take a taxi (10 minutes max.) If being in a castle is something you would consider, this might work for you. You can get a room for 2 at the hostel.

My family stayed at the Hotel Am Markt some years ago. The hotel was okay but the location was great. It's a restaurant with rooms to let on the upper floors. We had a wine that we just fell in love with, called "Rotor Hahn" (Red Rooster). There is a red rooster on the label. It is made by the Toni Jost winery.

Bacharach was a FRENCH town (Département de Rhin-et-Moselle) from 1794 until 1813. It was part of the FRENCH occupation zone from 1945 until 1949.

Thank you everyone - and sorry for "moving" the town to the wrong country

The town website lists all the accommodations and the local tourist office is very good in helping making reservations at those that do not have email.
