Babymoon in Greece
Our 5 year anniversary is coming up and I'll be 3-4 months pregnant. We've always wanted to go to Greece.
I would love to have a nice relaxing vacation but still hit up the highlights. Even better if there is a company that will arrange our transportation and even hotels. We are looking for comfortable accommodations without going over the top. We will be traveling for about 10 days. We have gone back and forth about staying in Athens, then going to Santorini. Also if Mykonos is worth it or if another Island or day trip is better (I would like at least one beach day but the rest can be tourist stuff). We will be traveling in at the end of June or beginning of July. Any suggestions would be great. |
It will be hot in Athens - average high about 90 F. Many pregnant women are very uncomfortable in heat. The islands will not be as hot. With 10 days, choose just two destinations... you can decide on day trip depending upon how you feel.

Thanks! Is it possible just to stay in Santorini and then take day trips from there?
|
In July it may be possible to take daytrips to other islands because there are more ferries operating then than at any other time of the season. The closest islands convenient by daily ferry are Ios, Naxos and Paros. You can check ferry schedules here: http://www.gtp.gr
Keep in mind that in July Mykonos will be a 24/7 party island. Santorini has a lot more to see and do. |
Santorini is too remore from other islands for day trips. Muskonos and Paros or Naxos are easy to do as a combination.
|
Why not consider a two-island trip to Santorini and Naxos? They are only two hours apart by ferry, and a good contrast with each other. Naxos will be more relaxing than either Santorini or Mykonos if that matters.

What is the high speed ferry like from Athens to Santorini? Is it boring? Are there any suggestions about better ways to get from one to the other rather than flying?
I've also been looking into prepackaged tours because they seem less expensive. Trafalger and Globus each have a tour that is almost identical. They both start in Athens, high speed ferry to Mykonos (5 hours?) then high speed ferry to Santorini, then a flight back to Athens. Does anyone have experience with their company? Thanks for the suggestions!! |
I would not advise the high speed ferry if you are pregnant. It can be extremely nauseating. You'd be better off on a regular boat.
The problem with prepackaged tours is that you are committed to their itinerary, not yours, with very little time to actually see anything. Whatever you do, decide quickly. Flights and accommodations for the summer months get booked months ahead. |
That's great advice- thanks
