Delta has also announced lower limits.

Most U.S. airlines already have instituted the 50 pound limit -- at least AA on my flight to Europe last month.

I did notice that with my connection with BA, they were at 70 pounds. ((b))

If you read the article, Budman, you'll find there are other changes besides weight limits. But you probbably know that too.

Oh Boy, I'm in trouble! #-O

This is WONDERFUL news. I'll no longer have to check my 19 or 21 inch rollaboard!!!!! ((D))

seetheworld Jun 18th, 2006 05:47 PM

You know janisj, after I had a chance to calm myself down, lol, I realized the same thing.

Which means now I can pack a set of clothing just incase our luggage gets lost.

Now, you didn't think that I was ONLY taking a 21" bag, did you? ;) :D

Budman Jun 18th, 2006 05:51 PM

jsmith, oops, I missed the one bag per person thingy. If I ever have to fly BA again, I'll have to tell my wife she must leave the kitchen sink at home. :-) ((b))

"Now, you didn't think that I was ONLY taking a 21" bag, did you?"

Try it - you'll like it :D

( I am soooooo happy they are dropping that 6 kg limit. Now I'll have to see if VS is doing the same)

I'll think I'll sell my shares in BA - first time a flight hits turbulence & someone gets killed by a 50lb piece of hand-luggage they'll be hell (and several million dollars) to pay.

Continental allows 40-pound hand luggage, and they're based in Texas, so the litigation fear must not be that great.

As the Queen of Misdirected Luggage (7 incidents) I like having a bigger carry-on. I fully expect that my arrival time will be nowhere near the arrival time of my luggage, hence I need at least one change of clothes. :-( It was always tough flying BA because anything bigger than a backpack had to be checked. WOOHOO!!

I appreciate the ability to bring more on than before. But my concern now is not having something fall on me; it is being allowed all that extra time to watch as the person ahead of me struggles to get all of their worldly goods out of the overhead bin

janisj Jun 19th, 2006 05:21 AM

" . . all of their worldly goods out of the overhead bin . . ."

". . . someone gets killed by a 50lb piece of hand-luggage"

I use one 19 inch rollie bag - not all my worldly goods. And it barely weighs 24 - 25 lbs, usually less. I also carry a medium sized handbag that goes under the seat. No day pack, tote bag, duffle bag.

I also hate it when folks bring tons of crap on board - one small rollaboard that I (at 5 feet tall) I can lift to the overhead by myself is all I'm talking about.
