BA now charging for land transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick?
I booked my tickets from Philadelphia to Bologna, Italy over two months ago on British Airways. I got a decent deal on them bc I was willing to make the Heathrow/Gatwick connection. Today I called BA to confirm that there would be no problem with the ground transportation and they informed me that it would now cost 14 pounds EACH WAY for the ground transportation. I am so angry because when I booked my ticket they said it would be free. I talked to a supervisor and he said there was nothing he could do about the cost bc BA didn't own the ground transport, but I think that they should pay for my transportation between the airports. I didn't book two tickets, one from PHL to Heathrow and another one from Gatwick to Bologna, I booked a ticket from Philadelphia to Gatwick with an INCLUDED land transportation. I think if they sold me that ticket, they should pay for my transportation. Anyone have any ideas how I can get them to pay or any experience with the new system?

Amy,
I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever offered free transfers between the 2 airports. Again, I could be wrong, but twice within last 2 years, I also had to transfer, and nobody ever mentioned any free transfers.

Grow up and cough up the dough yourself. You sound like another whiney Yank ..........

It's 20 bucks can you afford it for the convenience of not making your own connection...that's life .Live it!

So it's not what you thought ...who exactly told you what to think!

Rest assured, 'Sick of Yanks' is indeed a Yank herself.

Creepy.

They used to, but they don't any more. We did the Heathrow-Gatwick connection on June 12 and this was right after the change in policy. I too had been told when I bought the tickets in April that transfers would be included if we showed our plane tickets at the bus ticket window, but when we got there that was no longer the case. Man, there were some disgruntled people in the transfer ticket purchase line! Some people were being told that they could get a voucher if they went to the BA customer service desk and raised hell, but I don't know if that was true or not. Even if they were bending the rules in June, I sort of doubt that they are still doing it now.

For what it's worth, I didn't bother arguing because the line for the BA-recommended bus line was unbelievably long--we were told that the wait to get on a bus might be well upwards of an hour. So we went to the bus line at the next stop over (literally twenty feet down the sidewalk), paid our 14 pounds each, and got on a bus within 5 minutes. It was worth the money for us!

Hope this helps.
Thank you for your information. I did not expect to be received with such hostility. FWIW, I did ask SPECIFICALLY about the costs BEFORE the trip and was told it was free (By both a travel agent and the BA agent). Also, I could have booked a slightly more expensive flight and saved the hassle of the transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick had I known. (The flight would have almost been cheaper than my flight plus the additional transfer costs) Thanks to the exceptionally RUDE welcome I received, I will not post again.

Amy - don't leave just because of some slightly rude remarks. Have a thicker skin than that. It is too bad about the change in policy - but just about every offer has a caveat saying terms can change w/o notice. Don't get so agitated over £14. If it was £50 I could see it - but for $20 - geez lighten up. S**t happens, if you can't go with the flow maybe you shouldn't be traveling to foreign countries.
