BA Flight Cancellation
British Airways has cancelled the Nov 25 flight from LGW to ATL. There is nothing on their website stating the reason. It does show that the return flight from Atlanta on Nov 26 was cancelled for operational reasons. Has anyone heard why the flight on Nov 25 was cancelled?
Thanks in advance. |
If the ATL-LGW is cancelled for operational reasons, it stands to reason that the outbound flight is also pulled as that would leave one of their aircraft redundant on the tarmac at ATL.

In airline lingo, operational reasons (as opposed to technical reasons), means:
a) flight cancelled due to insufficient bookings, b) flight cancelled because a more important route had technical problems and they preferred to use the plane on that route instead c) the plane is required elsewhere for mysterious reasons (a favorite of my own airline) |
Thanks. The Sunday flight (LGW-ATL) was cancelled on Friday. While I don't mind another day in London it did wreck havoc with my work schedule as I was supposed to work on Monday. I know why tha ATL-LGW flight was cancelled (no plane in Atlanta), but they gave no reason for the LGW-ATL cancellation. At least they did notify us early and we didn't arrive at Gatwick on Sunday expecting to fly home.
Thanks again. |
Hey DC
The flight my family was going on was cancelled. But Thank God they were able to get on another flight on the same plane as the rest of our family. But there's no room for error, we going on a cruise. As I told those family members in the first place, always get to the port a day early, cause you never never know. I hope it all works out for you, I been there. |
Not a fault of BA this time, I presume.
Yesterday the radar for the London area flight control was down, which caused serious traffic jams. I myself was victim to a considerable delay heading back into the city on a LX flight. |
Since the Sunday flight was cancelled on Friday I don't think the radar had anything to do with the cancellation. I got on the Monday flight fine. When we got to Atlanta we found that the return flight on Monday back to Gatwick had also been cancelled.
I'm beginning to believe that due to the low value of the USD the are cancelling due to insufficient bookings. Delta has two flights per day. I don't know how their bookings are going. Thanks again. |
Just an update on my original post. BA just informed us that the flight was cancelled due to staffing shortages.
We submitted a claim for compensation for the cancelled flight. Per EU regulations we were eligible for 600 Euros each. We received payment for that today. DCJones |
Thanks for posting an update. It's nice to know that the airline gave you the truth and allowed you to seek your compensation under the law. I have heard (and experienced--with a US carrier domestically) that isn't always the case.
