B&B's in Provence
 

My husband and I will be spending 4 days in Provence. Places we'll be visiting include Arles, Avignon, St Remy and Aix en provence.
Any recommedations on charming B&B's under $100? Also, would you recommend 1 B & B over the 4 days or a few?

I'm going to Provence in May, and will be staying at some B&B's for the first time- I've always used hotels in the past (mostly 3-star, occasionally a 4).

Since I'm staying for 2 weeks, I'm spreading out to several places. I'm staying at Presbytere St. Thomas in St. Etienne du Gres (near St. Remy)- saw some recommendations on this forum. I've spoken to the owner several times, and she sounds lovely (doesn't speak much English, though,but my basic French sufficed). I'm also staying in Lourmarin at Villa St. Louis -a B&B which has also been recommended here and in a guidebook (Cadogan, I believe)-that owner also doesn't speak English, but her daughter does.
And in the north, I'm staying in Vaison-la-Romaine at L'Eveche, which has been recommended lots of places.

All these places have websites, and are under $100. I'm really looking forward to trying "B&B's" for the first time. I am staying in one lovely hotel, Le Priere, in Villeneuve-les-Avignon, for the first 4 nights, however.

Bernadette, the owner of the Villa St. Louis, is a good friend of my wife's aunt - you will love it there!

we're also staying at Presbytere St. Thomas in the Fall for 4 days. I might break up the stay to two days in the city and two in the country. You can check out other B&Bs for the area on the website: www.avignon et provence.com

BTW, either my French is far worse than I thought or Madame at Presbytere speaks more Provencal. Our booking was easily accomplished via the internet.

I was the first Fodorite to stay there :-) and I'm happy to see more of you will visit. It was soooooo pretty and comfy and ideally located for touring Provence!

We just returned from Provence, our first visit, staying 4 nights at Presbytere St. Thomas thanks to recommendations from uhoh and wren. Madame's English is not very developed, but she is a very kind hostess, and the place is terrific and a bargain (thanks, uhoh). We also found it to be very centrally located for trying out different towns within Provence.

I am happy to read more and more great reviews of Presbytere St. Thomas. 1999: my comment about breaking up your stay has to do with your 4 days. Folks on this forum also happen to really like Le Calendal in Arles.

jd-dallas, so glad to hear you enjoyed the Presbytere St. Thomas - I already knew uh-oh and Wren did. I've had fun speaking to Madame on the phone several times, and I've e-mailed her (in French) and gotten return e-mails (in French). I'm thrilled that she doesn't
speak English!

And Kevin, thanks for the info re the Villa St. Louis. I'm really getting excited about this trip!
