B&B Verona - Recommend
 

Hi there. Can anyone recommend either of these - Anfiteatro B&B (very central), Bruno Ape B&B (can't locate the Arena on this B&B's map! so probably at least 15 mins walk) - anyone stayed at either? I am trying to find an available B&B/cheap hotel for two adults, 2 young teens (Max EURO 160.00 - we are paying in NZ dollars so fell sorry for us!). Other hotels recommended on Fodors are already full or unable to accomodate us in one room. Any comments/recommendations welcome.

When we were in Verona about 9 months ago for 2 nights, we rented a wonderful apartment from a woman named Federica De Rossi. If I remember correctly it was less than 100 Euros per night, we were three people but the apartment could easily hold 4 or 5. It included a bedroom, a huge living room that doubled as an extra bedroom, dining area and a full kitchen, plus bathroom, shower. The kitchen was even outfitted with not only all the utensils you needed, but also staples like olive oil, salt, etc. Check on trip advisor for great reviews, including mine, and try this place. She was also very sweet, helpful and accomodating. There was also a wonderful small trattoria (and not expensive) on the corner, can't recall the name right now, where we ate at least twice. I think it was Tre Scalini or something similar. Good luck,.

We just returned from Verona. Stayed in Hotel Torcolo. 1 min away from the Arena. We paid 95 Euros for a triple room (no breakfast. We loved the location, the hotel and especially Verona.

Flame123 & Eri, thanks to both of you - I have already tried both of those places but they are full - I guess I left this too late. I booked everywhere else months ago, but we just decided to add one night in Verona a couple of weeks ago. I'll keep trying.

I suggest you look at the reviews on trip advisor for Verona and try any one of the recommended hotels there. I have never been disappointed when going by those reviews. They are always to-the-point and true. Good luck.

Kiwi, when I was in Verona a few years ago, Torcolo was booked but they sent us to the Armando...it was reasonable and friendly, little English spoken but nice owners. If you can't find a link for it, I will see what I can dig up--- the Torcolo may have a link, since they sent us there...

my mother and i stayed two nights in april 2005 at this b&b - got the listing from the tourist board website.

Its a small family owned business - cheap but clean and pleasant, well decorated, nice part of town - just a few minutes walk to the sights. I really can recommend. Owner was very helpful too. Breakfast was pretty basic and served in the tiny kitchen but that didn't bother us. Instead we enjoyed good conversation with the owner while he made my mother tea (or tried to!)

I've just realised you want one room - don't know if they do this. But then, its such a small place - not the rooms themselves - but its basically one apartment so you would probably be pretty close, if that's any help.

Annabelle2, thanks for the offer but Torcolo already sent us the link. We have decided to go with "La Finestra sull'Arena". It is very close to Arena, the rooms look a bit basic but as long as they're clean I don't care. Price is good - EURO 130.00 for 4, incl breakfast. Only found one review, said it was good. The proprietors seem very helpful, so, fingers crossed...

Glad you found a place, kiwi. Sounds like a good location. Have you been to Verona before? I quite liked it; nice wine bars (since it is in the heart of one of Italy's best wine regions, of course!), good food, the arena is impressive, and there is a great shopping street near the arena leading into lively piazzas (w/some very well-dressed shoppers, more so than I saw in many other places in Italy).
