B&B south of Glasgow

I'm looking for a B&B near the M74 within 50 miles south of Glasgow. We'd want a place that serves dinner or is near a pub or restaurant. It's an overnight stop off en route south. So any suggestions?

Here are a couple in Mofffatt which is a good stopping off place.

I've stayed in the Black Bull in Moffat, which does good bar food. I thought it was absolutely fine. Not fancy but fine.

A third vote for Moffatt. It seems to fit your requirement exactly AND it has a woollen mill outlet as well. What more could you want.

I appreciate your responses. And I'm embarrassed to say that, on further reflection, 50 miles may be a little too far south of Glasgow that day. Any place closer? Like within 20 or 30 miles. And it doesn't have to be a B&B (though I prefer them). A small hotel is okay.

Thanks (again) in advance.

No, truly, you don't. There's only wilderness in between. GO TO MOFFAT!!

Glasgow to Moffat is only about 50 miles on a Motorway - about an hour and longest 1 1/2. What time did you expect to leave Glasgow?

A few years ago we left Bishopbriggs (northern suburb of Glasgow) around 8:30AM and drove to Gretna Green for quick shopping and a pub lunch. Went east with a few stops along Hadrian's Wall and continued to Durham, arriving around 5:00PM for an overnight hotel stay. It was a fairly leisurely drive.

BTW, we are from the US.

I don't see much difference between "20 or 30 miles" and "50 miles" south of Glasgow. It is all motorway, and at most the difference is only 30 minutes - most likely only 20 minutes. Stay in Moffatt.

This stretch isn't like other parts of Scotland where you'll be driving 30-35 mph.

Well, we're going to start in Glasgow, then rent a car and go north. On the day in question, we will start north of Glasgow (Crianlarich maybe?), visit Inveraray and Hill House in Helensburgh, and continue south, with the eventual destination of Hadrian's Wall. Hence the idea of a stop just beyond Glasgow.

OK, I'm open to suggestions that we're nuts or all wrong or whatever.

Moffat's a good shout. Honest

If you can make it as far as Glasgow - you can make it as far as Moffatt. Don't worry.

(in fact - I would even try to go farther, and stay closer to the Wall. But since you seem to be concerned about the distance - stay in Moffatt)

OK, OK, I give up. Moffatt it is.
