We stayed here last year in the small hilltop village of Venasque. It's closer to Gordes than Avignon. When we stayed there we visited the areas you want to see, so with a car it's in a good location. The village is small with only two resturants and just a couple of shops. Beautiful location, nice B&B in your price range. Josy, the owner speaks pretty good English.

Here's a link to my blog and the entry about our stay in Provence.

We loved

In Le Pontet outside of Avignon---may be beyond your price range, but they have some small rooms in the house that are less.

The reason that I mention it is that there was a flood when we were there and the upscale room that we had reserved was under water. They then offered us "grandma's room" which was in the main house and teeny-tiny but quite nice. If this happens to be in your price range, grab it!
