B&B, Inn, or small Hotel in the West
 

Planning a late May or early June trip to Ireland. We stay in B&Bs mostly in England, Scotland, and Wales. Would like to stay in a nice B&B, small hotel or inn for a couple of nights that overlooks the Atlantic on the west side of the Republic of Ireland. Can any of you recommend a couple? Would like to pay no more than 200 euros per day.

We stayed in the Bunratty Castle Hotel in Bunratty village in Co. Clare recently. It was very nice and good value. It's right beside Bunratty Castle itself and we went to the Banquet on one of the nights. It is definitely worth the trip. It isn't on the coast though. You could also try Westport. It's a lovely town in Co. Mayo. If you are feeling energetic, take a hike up Croagh Patrick ( The Reek). Fantastic views of Clew Bay from the top,(or even half way up). I know of one hotel there in Westport, it's called Knockranny House Hotel. It might be a bit more expensive or maybe not. Check it out, its supposed to be very good. There is also the Castlecourt Hotel, (not sure what it's like). If you go to Donegal, check out Rossnowlagh. There is a hotel there called the Sandhouse Hotel. I think it is quite expensive, but from what I remember, is really nice and directly on the beach. Enjoy!, Martina.

If "The West of Ireland" you mean the whole west coast I can Rec. the Bayview House in Clifden. Lovely views if you get the right room but a couple of minutes drive to town.

In Kinsale in the south Actons or the Trident are along the Quay and overlook the Harbor but are a little upscale and you should request a room overlooking the bay.

On the East Coast a little north of Waterford in a small village called Ardmor is the Cliffside Hotel. Small and a little old but spotlessly clean. Sits on a cliff overlooking St. Georges Channel, a great view with gardens to sit out on, again overlooking the water. Next to the Hotel is the beginning of a cliff walk that takes about an hour and ends in the village at a round tower and an ancient church. Two pubs and a small Restaurant. Ask for a room on the seaside. Have fun

It was once a coastgaurd station, then a guesthouse. Third generation Elizabeth & John are excellent hosts. The Atlantic comes within 30 metres of your window at high tide ( rooms at the back) and the Cathedral Cliffs almost rival those of Moher. Excellent restaurant too.
