Avoca Ireland
I'll be in Ireland next spring and would like to go to Avoca, where Ballykissangel was filmed. Would this be worth while?
We will be in Ireland for two weeks. |
It depends on how much of a Ballykissangel fan you are!
Avoca is pretty, but would not hold your attention for long unless you are chasing down locations. It is in a very scenic area, so you can include it in a tour of the Wicklow Mountains. |
GadAbout,
I'm a huge fan of BallyK. We spent about 4 hours in Avoca. It is a lovely spot. We walked around, had lunch and I enjoyed sitting on a bench in front of the pub with an older gent and his dog. I thought the whole area was very pretty. Enjoy your trip, Joan |
Depends on the rest of your schedule. If you are flying in & out of Shannon and will mostly be in the west doing BallyK will mean a couple of extra days crossing the country. Co. Wicklow is beautiful and Avoca is a cute little town (very little).

Thanks for your replies. I know Avoca is a very small town but to me it is very appealing being the Ballk fan I was. I'm sure we will make this a stop on our trip.

If you have seen the movie 'Circle of Friends' with Minnie Driver, you may also want to stop by Inistioghe - that's where it was mostly filmed. It's not far from Kilkenny, which you'll pass on your way to/from Avoca.
Kilkenny is a good base city for a couple days, lots of things to visit within a short drive. |
