Avignon to Pernes-les-Fontaines by bus
 

Hi,
I'm going to Provence in November and will be staying in Avignon, but won't be driving. I'd really like to visit this town, but after looking at all sorts of transportation websites, I can't find a bus that goes there from Avignon. Does anyone know if there actually is a bus? Perhaps this route only exists in my imagination... Any other ideas on how to get there?

Unfortunately, I have no knowlede of the bus system that might take you to Pernes, but if you could get the bus to Isle sur la Sorgue, you could easily take a cab to Perns, probably about 10-12 mins away.
We rented a place right outside of Perns last year for two weeks so this was our home base town. It is nice, it does have the 30 something fountains, many which don't work, but IMHO, if you can't get there easily I wouldn't bother. There are so many other wonderful towns ,it is not worth the effort. It was a good town for us to live in, but I certainly enjoyed other towns much more, including I'sle...
Is there a reason you want to visit Pernes?

The village's website makes no mention of a bus or train, so I don't think there is one. You could also take a train to Carpentras and get a taxi there. I agree that it's a nice town but not one worth making a big effort to get to unless you have some specific compelling reason to.

I've stayed in Pernes, and it's a nice little town. I also probably wouldn't kill myself to get there, if you can't. It's too small for a train station. There is a bus from Carpentras, at least used to be (the number 40).

There is also a bus from Avignon to Carpentras, via Pernes, although you'd have to check out the current schedules at the bus station in Avignon. That bus is number 14bis.

Thanks for all the advice and the info on the 14bis bus. That's what I was hoping to find out. However, if you're all saying it isn't worth a lot of hassle, I might give it a miss if the bus schedule is inconvenient. I guess I could go to Gordes or Aix-en-Provence instead (I'm just going by what looked like the prettiest and quaintest towns close to Avignon in the guidebook). They seem easier to get to than Pernes by public transport.

Actually, I enjoyed Pernes. We were there 3 weeks ago and took the 2 hr Tourist Office self guided walking tour that takes you by, or close to all the fountains. There are not many "cute little shops" in Pernes, but lots of interesting architecture and a free museum that was interesting.

I've been to most of the villages in Provence, and if you have time I think Pernes is worth a visit. I would not visit it instead of Aix or Gordes, however.
