Avignon Restaurant La Mirande
Has anyone recently eaten at La Mirande, I am trying to narrow down restaurant selections and cannot fine much info on this place. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
Ward |
La Mirande gets one star in the Michelin guide, a good indication. The hotel is probably the best in Avignon and gets great reviews; so I'd imagine the restaurant is excellent as well.

Hi
Yes, you should eat at La Mirande! We did in Sept 2001. The food, the wine and the service are fantastic, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy! |
Lewis,
Do you recall the $ you paid in 2001? Thanks, Ward |
The Michelin Guide shows menus for 49/82€ for dinner; lunch is 38. Those are pretty good prices.
Note that the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. |
Hi
I think it was around what Underhill quoted you but, that is without wine or appetizer or dessert! With the wine it was over €125. It is a 'splurge' but well worth it. |
The Michelin price quote is actually for a 3-course "menu," and at a 1* restaurant you nearly always get a freebie "amuse bouche" at the start of your meal, along with teeny pastries and chocolates afterwards with your coffee.

Any recent reports on this restaurant ?

They also have cooking lessons.

Would it be a mistake to take children there? Our children are excellent in restaurants, but I'm getting spooked by the reports of children being unwelcome in French restaurants (we'll be in Avignon within the month.) :)

Well behaved children are always welcome.

"... I'm getting spooked by the reports of children being unwelcome in French restaurants ..."
Don't be spooked. I have eaten in many, many French restaurants and have never seen any indication that children weren't welcome. A couple of weeks ago I was in a restaurant in Paris where a young father walked an infant around the restaurant trying to settle him. No one batted an eye, including the waiter, who kept having to dodge the strolling father. As cigalechanta says, "Well behaved children are always welcome." Anselm |

It has maintained its one star Michelin rating in the 2006 guide released this month. |
The chef has changed since our visit in '01, but I highly recommend eating there. We had a rack of veal en croute, served tableside, the ambiance is second to none, very informal/formal, we were very casually dressed. We stayed at the hotel for three nights, excellent service. They even went out and got us pizza one evening. This is a very nice place, very relaxing.

Thanks for the reassurances regarding children in French restaurants.
|
We intend to stay there for three nights in October. (no kids.. woo hoo)
