Are you looking for general information on Avignon or for apartments and villas?

Bellflower, check this site,

What kind of info are you looking for?

One of my favorite websites on that area is www.avignon-et-provence.com They have a lot of information, but also a section specifically on holiay rentals
http://www.avignon-et-provence.com/p...ion_rental.htm

That's just one. The French Gites website has plenty of private rentals.

I also like www.provenceweb.fr and www.beyond.fr for general information on the area.

We have a village house in Beaumes de Venise, which we rent when owners are not in occupation. BdV is about 30 kms from Avignon and is a very pleasant village. Availability would very much depend on when you were travelling as it is fairly heavily booked from late August to october this year. You can see the house at www.users.tpg.com.au/adsl8fbu . I also recommend www.beyond.fr for lots of quite detailed information about Provence.

That's a beautiful area. We stayed near there (Bedoin) for 2 weeks in late June. I much prefer this region (Dentelles & Bedoin area), over the St Remy region. It has fewer tourists than the Luberon, which I also like a lot.

The further away from Avignon I get, the more I enjoy Provence. Visit Avignon, but stay in the Dentelles, foot of Mt Ventoux, or the Luberon (Gordes & east of Gordes).

GregY2 - what's the significance of the two big hands at the round-about??

I think it symbolises "Give us your money". No, not really, we did stop once to look at them and I seem to recall it had something to do with Bacchus but I'm afraid that's the best I can do at the moment. We will be in residence for a week towards the end of September so I'll check it out again.

Stu, for your information if you are still around, I had a look at the hands while we were there and I am not much wiser. They are holding grapes so the link to winemaking is pretty clear. There seems to be a bit of trend in the area to decorate roundabouts with sculpture. There is even one on the vaison road that has grapes planted on it as well as the sculpture.
