Avignon or Arles for 2 nights in April?
After we leave Toulouse we will go somewhere else for 2 days. We want it to be fairly easy to get to by train from Toulouse, as well as returning to Paris the day before we leave to return home. Thought it would be Avignon but I have a friend who insists we go to Arles instead. Any words of wisdom on this weighty matter?

HI
how about this:
go to Avignon, spend your first day there. On the second day you could continue sightseeing in Avignon, or easily take a short train or bus ride to Arles, just for the day, returning to Avignon to sleep.

IMHO: elaine's advice sums it up perfectly......
There was a thread a few weeks back that you may wish to search for that discussed these 2 cities....You'll find that my advice was the same in that one!! :-)

I prefer Avignon because it has a more "urban" feel to it, and the sights are of "more" interest to me than those in Arles. OTOH: If you simply go straight to Avignon and take a side trip to Arles, you should be able to get a very good feel for both places...

Best wishes for a great trip!! Dave

I vote for Arles. I have been to both cities twice and find I like the size and charm of Arles a bit more to my liking. That is not to say that you wont enjoy Avignon- Both were enjoyable.

I, too, would prefer Arles to Avignon as the other post recommends (Pop) took the words right out of my mouth.

Francie
