Avignon - Hotel Bristol

I will be in Avignon with my wife for approximately 7 days in mid-June.

We will be using Avignon as a base and taking about 5 daytrips on a combination of bus and train. NO CAR.

I'm looking for a hotel that is relatively close to the bus/train stations but also within walking distance to the Avignon sights.

After some research it appears Hotel Bristol meets our needs.

I want to make sure the area around the hotel is not industrial/commercial and more like the inner Avignon Center. Walkable with restaurants, etc.

Also, since we're in the hotel for about a week I want to make sure the hotel is reasonably nice/clean and the rooms large enough to store our belongings.

There appears to be a "Traditional" room and a "Twin" room. They mention that the Twin room is larger (can't tell how much) and is about 25E more per night. I don't mind spending the extra money if it's worth it.

Any recent experiences with this hotel?

Thanks.

I haven't stayed there but I know that street and the location of the hotel, and no, it is not industrial. It's on the main street leading from the main square (near the Palais des Papes) to the area near the train station, but it's just a regular street with a few hotels, shops, some govt. buildings (school or post office or something, I forget exactly), cafes, etc., it's not industrial at all. Industrial areas are more on the outskirts of cities or even outside the main walls, if any. I think there is a cafe right next door, if I remember right.

As to whether it is "commercial", well, yes, of course it is, it has some shops, restaurants and hotels on it. The main center of Avignon is commercial in that regard, also. Not sure what you mean by that, being a main street, it is not mainly residential if that's what you mean. The center of Avignon isn't remotely mainly residential, either, if you mean the main square which has the Palais des Papes, and all the restaurants, etc.

I probably used the wrong word. What I didn't want is offices that empty out after work.

What I really want to know is if it's deserted in the evening or if it has a touristy feel to it.

It appears to be a tree-lined street. That would be good.

Cafes, stores and evening activity would be great.

Stayed at the Hotel Bristol May, 2010.
Reasonable rates, quiet room.
Great location on the main street.
Highlight is the Excellent restaurant downstairs.
Also close to transport.
Lovely tree-lined street.

AS a town preferred AIX.
Found Avignon too touristy.

It has been several years since we stayed there, but the hotel was fine and the location was great. Close to everything. Have fun.
