Avignon car rental

Our plans are to pick up a car in Avignon on Monday, September 17 and return it on Sunday, September 23. After a quick check on AutoEurope the site says the rentals agencies are closed on Saturday and Sunday. Is that true of all of France? We are training down from Paris on the 17 and going to pick up the car and travel on to Bonnieux. . Does anyone have a solution? Another city? My DH is taking charge of this arena and he threw up his hands and said for me to try to handle it. Which, as ya'll know, means to check Fodor's thanks, Sharon

Thats rather odd. I doubt if they are really closed or perhaps only closed at lunch? Most rental car agencies offer a key drop for when they are closed anyway.

MorganB- That's what I thought as well. There are three rental agencies for Autoeurope in Avignon They all say closed Saturday and Sunday. Two of them have in red print, Drop off box. The one that didn't have a drop off box available was at the Tgr station. I think, and that would be the one we would need.
Also, I didn't know exactly what that meant, having never rented a car in France. Thanks, I'll have DH dig a little deeper. Any other advice most welcome as we have never been to France. Thanks again. Sharon

You say you are traveling by train..TGV? The Auto Europe station hours are on the site: Sunday 9 AM til 10 PM. Mon - Sat 8 AM til 10 PM. I don't understand your problem with that.........

shanart, as gracejoan3 points out, the car rental booths at Avignon TGV are open long hours, including Sunday. The AutoEurope sites offers several pick-up locations in Avignon, including the airport, the old train station on boul Saint-Roch, Avignon Courtine, and the new TGV station. Just be sure to select the TGV as your pick-up and drop-off location.

Yes, you need to pick up the car at Avignon-TGV. If for some reason, you are not arriving at Avignon-TGV, there is a shuttle bus from the city (leaves in front of the other train station downtown).

When dealing with Autoeurope, I use their toll free number rather than the web site. The reps are very knowledgable.

Thanks everyone, I should have checked before posting. The rental agency in the TGV station is open on Sundays. HIS mistake, I should have been looking over his shoulder. Another problem averted. Sharon
