AVE train ticket good for Metro to hotel?

I thought I read somewhere that if you come in to Madrid on an AVE train you can take the Metro on to your final destination (wherever your hotel is) on the same ticket. Is that right? If so, how does the ticket get used in the Metro?

A cercanias (commuter) train run by RENFE - yes - not the metro.

no, you can't use national railway tickets in the city metro system in any city, AFAIK, including Madrid.

You can get some free suburban train connection with AVE tickets in some cases, useful on the C1 line for those going to or coming from the airport, for example. And even then it is NOT the same ticket, there is a code you get when buying the AVE ticket that tells you how to get the free rail connection ticket.
