Autumn in UK or Sicily?
My wife and I are trying to decide between visiting the UK and Sicily this September or October. We'd spend between two and three weeks. We've visited Italy many times but have not gotten south of Paestum, but England only once, years ago. What do you think?

Sorry--My question is pretty vague. We would spend around a week in Scotland, a few days in northern England, possibly visit Wales for a day, and the rest in London.
I think dutyfree probably is right: depends on the exchange rate at the time. I'm leaning toward the UK because the dollar seems to be better right now against the Pound than the Euro is.
Guess I'll withdraw the question.

"<i>Visit Wales for a day???</i>" Yeah, I smiled at that one too . . .
dwdvagamundo: You really can't go wrong whichever you choose. Depending where you fly from, the airfare to London would probably be substantially less.
But I do suggest you not try to cram in three countries. Three weeks would be better - but Scotland is a biiiig place and you could very easily spend your 2 or 3 weeks there. I personally wouldn't do Scotland, N. England, Wales, and London in 2 weeks. 10 days in Scotland and 4 in London (plus your two travel days) is almost 2.5 weeks right there.
June and Sept are my two favorite months in most parts of the UK. Sept is especially scenic in Scotland because all of all the hillsides covered by blooming heather.

SICILY!!! Hands down. Especially that time of year. The UK is lovely but who can argue with palm trees, beaches, and exquisite cuisine? Sorry, that's just me being passionate. The real question is which one makes you feel more that way

I enjoy England a lot: History, theater, cathedrals, lovely landscapes and places like Bath. However, I am crazy about Italy and really loved my short time in Sicily, so would choose Sicily, especially at that time of year: Fabulous food, beautiful beaches, islands & landscapes, cathedrals, volcano, fantastic Greek ruins, etc. etc.

I highly recommend Sicily - it is one of our favorite places in the world and at that time of year, the weather is going to be beautiful! Here is a map that highlights some of our favorite sites in Sicily, perhaps it will help frame an itinerary: http://bit.ly/TBSgp
I know you will have a great trip no matter what you choose!

If you decide on the UK, go as early as you can (in September) and start in Scotland, working your way south. Whereas if you're forced into October, Sicily might be better.
Both places are great. But maybe you need to catch up on Scotland and England. So much to see there; I love the countryside.

Why not visit both Sardgena and Sicilia?
I'm biased, I live in Italy. I do love Scotland and parts of England, but I wouldn't want to go much past the first 2 weeks in September. And while I can find the simple foods of Scotland and England sustaining for 3 weeks (give their attempts at finer cuisine a miss), I have to admit that Sicilia's amazing, mouthwatering cuisine would seal the deal in every contest between it and the British isles.
I think to let the exchange drive you would be a mistake. Sicily does not have to be an expensive destination -- and London is, with little relief. For me, the prime areas of Sicilia are not the expensive tourist spots (Taormina) but the beautiful baroque towns (Ragusa, Modica) in the agricultural belt. I've never been to Sardegna, but I'm dying to go. I hear the food is unusual and incomparably authentic, the hiking great, and you can easily get off the one tiny part of the island that is a tourist port.
If you fly via London, you can spend a few days there on your way to or you way back.

Sicily for sure! I am planning my honeymoon there for the end of September. The weather is supposed to be great then. There is so much to see and do. Yet, there are beautiful beaches where you can relax and slow down the pace if you get tired of seeing the Greek and Roman ruins, Baroque churches, volcanos, ancient mosaic floors, medieval towns... Have fun!

I can't comment on UK, bcz I haven't been there. My vote would be Sicily. I've been there twice and hope to get a tour together to go back Spring 2010. The food is fantastic, the countryside beautiful and I love the small towns b/t Palermo and Agrigento. Very old and very beautiful. No modern stores or tourist traps. Enjoy wherever you go.
