Austria/Venice/Riviera itinerary - any thoughts?

Ok, so with a lot of help from here and a lot of research, we've finally settled on an itinerary that makes sense and is not too expensive. Any input on this (on the places we're going or time spent there) would be very much appreciated!!
By the way, starting and ending in Paris is non-negotiable in any case.

June 2005:

13th - fly into Paris
night - Paris

14th - fly to Vienna
night - Vienna

15th - see Vienna
night - Vienna

16th - see Vienna
night - Vienna

17th - train to Salzburg
night - Salzburg

18th - see Salzburg
night - Salzburg

19th - day trip to Munich
night - Salzburg

20th - train to Innsbruck
night - Innsbruck

21st - see Innsbruck
night - Innsbruck

22nd - train to Venice
night - Venice

23rd - see Venice
night - Venice

24th - see Venice
night - night train to Nice

25th - relax on Riviera
night - Nice

26th - day trip to Monaco
night - Nice

27th - day trip to Cannes
night - Nice

28th - fly back to Paris

Is there a reason that you aren't spending more time in Paris? Unless you've already been there, it certainly deserves as much time as Vienna, which I love by the way. I'd also recommend somewhere other than Innsbruck. Not much there for more than a few hours according to many here at Fodors. Also, while the Riviera is quite nice, it can be very crowded in June, altho probably not as bad as in July and August. Although I did not overnight there, I expect the Riviera is a bit pricey.

Whether you plan to spend time in Paris wasn't clear, because I think you didn't say when you leave for home. I think Paris is worth a visit too, but you need to decide what is important. Personally, I would also omit Innsbruck.

One thing you seem to be doing is going only to the cities. As a person who loves the countryside, I wonder if you might want to spend a day or so wandering through some of the smaller villages. Good luck.

Try as I may, I have never understood this type of hop-scotch itinerary. Too much time wasted in travel and too much cost in transit. If Paris is a given on both ends, then I suggest you concentrate on the 3 other destinations and regions that fit geographically. I would fly into Venice from Paris, then train to Vienna, and then to Salzburg. From Salzburg, I would spend a week enjoying the fabulous Salzkammergut region with a car, to include Hallstatt and the Wolfgangsee, and then end in Munich to fly back to Paris. Innsbruck makes no sense in this itinerary. If you want the mountains then day trip from Venice to Cortina, or spend a day at Gosausee near Hallstatt. Sorry, but you did ask.

Don't apologize - I appreciate the input. We're spending quite a bit of time in Paris before we go home - no worries there (I lived there for six months, and I want to show my friend my favorite places).
I've been to the Riviera before - I definitely want to stop there for a few days of beaches and relaxation after the heavy sightseeing.
Innsbruck... Well I've heard it's great and I like the pictures I've seen, but if so many people don't think it's worth it, then perhaps we will take it out. Is there some towns on the train route from Venice to Nice that would be recommended? Or maybe we should spend the extra two days in Salzburg and do some day trips? What about Verona?

Hi abby,

I'm wondering if it might be more convenient to fly into Munich and out of Paris.

Paris is non-negotiable at the beginning and end - it's a long story, but trust me on this one

Get your scenery fix in the Salzburg area--train to St.Gilgen and take the ferry boat on the Wolfgangsee.
