Austria to Italy rental car
I'll be renting a car in Innsbruck and doing a tour in the dolomites, returning to Innsbruck. I've seen some comments that CDW is obligatory in Italy. Is this a problem if you rent a car in Austria?
Any good rental companies ot work with? Thanks Paul |
You need to tell your rental agency where else you will be taking the car - and they will advise if you have to buy extra insurance for Italy. Also, while an American credit card will usually cover at least some types of insurance in Austria I'm not aware of any that does so in Italy.

Try renting via SIXT. Sign up for the American Express Premium Rental program and pay with your AX card. You'll have the needed coverage (read the policy to be sure it has what you want) and if you do have a problem, they handle everything.

It doesn't matter what insurance you have on American credit cards, Amex included. If you rent a car in Italy, you pay for CDW and theft insurance, no matter who covers you for what.
And if you rent in Austria and take the car into Italy, you'll need to be covered for the requisite Italian insurance coverage for the period you're driving in Italy. And don't rent a car in one country and drop it off in another (not sure if that's your plan) - it will cost you a small fortune in extra fees. |
I last rented i(Hertz) in Switz. using my gold Amex card and drove into Italy. I needed no additional coverage as per Amex. Suggest you check with your credit card company as well as your car rental company for your specific situation.

Thank you all
