Austria or Rome?
I have just a week to spend in Europe over Thanksgiving and I have narrowed my choices down to Vienna and Innsbruck or Rome. HELP! Where would you suggest I go?!
|
ROme hands down. Salzburg is charming but a few days is enough, i went to innsbruk years ago, maybe it's changed but back then it was horrible and people the most un-firendly i have ever encountered.

Roma it is! Innsbruck is fine as a jumping off location for skiing, not much else. Salzburg you do along with Vienna, Budapest and Prague another time. If you want to ski in Austria some winter, write back and I will give you all the hot tips.

Vienna is my favorite large European city - great museums, food, compact, historical, great architecture. Also has a wonderful coffeehouse atmosphere you really don't find anywhere else.

Rome is sorta like NYC. Crowded and Hectic, losta tourists. Good gelato, but restaurants are really uneven - esp. compared with rest of Italy. Great city at night, though.

Can't lose either way.

Coachboy

Many thanks, Coach Boy. Just what I needed to hear, as you mentioned the exact things I am looking for in this vacation. Just ordered a Vienna book off amazon.com. Ready to go!!!!!

Pardon me, but Rome is far from being like N.York, or N. York is far from having the same assets Rome has: all the history, museums, the Vatican, Coloseum, the piazzas, the fountains, Bernini's artwork spread all over the city... Give me a break!!!
