Other than Vienna, what is interesting to you about Austria - mountains, cities, Germans, Austrians? How can anyone else plan FOR YOU without that information.

What's "n"? N is not a word. Do you mean "and" or &?

Budapest is in "another neighboring country" so by planning to go there, you've met your goal to "club Austria with another neighboring country" if "to club" means "to pair" or "to combine."

Eight days gives you four for Vienna and four for Budapest. Or five and three either way. It's easy to spend more time in both cities, so you don't really have time for anything else. Maybe a day trip from one or the other.

Apologies BigRuss for sounding unprepared, just needed some advice on important cities to visit in Austria as our travel plans were made last minute... Nevertheless yes the mountains, castles, farms, history AND the villages interests us ...
Thanks for your input though !

You only have eight days, and you're planning to visit two countries. You can't possibly see "important cities in Austria," as Vienna will surely take up half your trip by itself. Neither will you be able to visit mountains, farms, or villages.

Get guidebooks for Vienna and Budapest, study them, and pick out a few things that appeal to you in each place. Check out the official websites of both cities. Learn how to use public transportation in each place so you don't waste time wandering around aimlessly. Study city maps so you know what's where and how to get from one place to another.

Have a good trip.

Thank you everyone for your replies, so we're only visiting Austria and our tentative itinerary is as follows,

30th June: land in Vienna (late night)
1st July: Vienna to Salzburg ( through the wachao region)
2nd July : Salzburg (old town and hellsbrun castle )
3rd July: Salzburg (sound of music tour)
4th July: Salzburg to Hallstatt ( bone house and church)
5th July: Hallstatt to Innsbruck
6th July : Innsbruck (explore Maria Theresien street, golden roof and lunch on nordkette mountain)
7th July: Innsbruck to Vienna
8th & 9th : Vienna ( day trip to Eagles nest and WW II bunkers, Schonbrun palace, st. Stephens cathedral, etc )
10th: return home
We will be self driving

Is this possible with a toddler, also could you suggest which region I could find a farm stay maybe for a day since my son loves animals. Also should I include Tirole for its lakes.

I think I'll do Berchtesgaden from Salzburg and skip hellsbrun castle

Suggest you spend some time reading train schedules here: https://www.bahn.com/p_en/view/index.shtml

Or car routes here:

Yes, I think you'd better not try to do Eagle's Nest from Vienna!

When traveling, less is almost always more, especially with a toddler.
